Vision Correction, Mission Correction
Through a Child’s Looking Glass
By Karuna Munshi
An elementary school in Toronto invites you to be an agent of positive change in a rapidly shifting world. It’s urging fellow Canadians to contribute towards global renewal through personal transformation. The students of the Toronto-based Sathya Sai School of Canada are calling upon anyone who cares for personal development, a saner, safer society, responsible citizenship and a healthier planet to come forward and Walk for Values on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at the Yonge-Dundas Square in downtown Toronto.
This year, as the annual Walk for Values enters its 7th year, the event assumes greater significance than ever before due to the dramatic changes the world has undergone over the past few months. From icecaps to the global economy, personal fortunes to corporate giants, political systems to social order … meltdowns are threatening our sense of stability. Winds of change are sweeping through our personal, professional, financial, social and national lives. Our world is undergoing a seismic shift on many fronts. Can our darkest hour be transformed into our finest? Can the opportunities to question what went wrong actually mark a new beginning? The Walk for Values 2009 provides an ideal platform to every caring Canadian to take responsibility and walk for the change they wish to see in their lives and the world around them.
Participants need not commit any money to this walk.
Held for a higher cause, the only pledge the Walk for Values seeks from its participants is self-improvement.
Looking Through the Eyes of a Child
Our worldview is colored by the tint of the glasses we wear, not just on our eyes, but all the senses that feed information to our mind and influence our prejudices, biases, choices, conclusions and judgment.
The young and conscientious Canadians at the Sathya Sai School are asking all participants to introspect if they require an inner vision correction to overcome any distortions; to identify the emotional, mental and spiritual glitches that prevent us from drawing upon our best instincts. Our attitudes, motives and biases define all our relationships -- from those to ourselves, friends and family, all the way to the planet that nurtures us even as we plunder its resources to feed our insatiable greed.
As an ideal participant at the Walk for Values 2009, please take a moment to recognize a human value that could enrich your personal life and the human condition around you. Perhaps it is peace or love, conservation or self-esteem, forgiveness or truth, non-violence or gratitude, acceptance or patience that you need to draw upon to make your life more fulfilling. It could be any value that speaks to your needs and situation.
These elementary school students seek a solemn promise from you to practice a value of your personal choice with greater enthusiasm, as you walk shoulder to shoulder with them and enrich your immediate circle of influence.
If our times seem challenging, let’s view them from a child’s lens as an opportunity for renewal and resetting our priorities.
“Who is best suited to be an effective agent of change? A pledge to practice a human value of your choice makes you an ideal agent of change. Step forward boldly to become the change you wish to see in the world.”
Be part of this event at the Yonge-Dundas Square at 10 AM on Sunday, May 31, 2009.
Your pledge and practice of a simple human value could just be the butterfly whose fluttering of the wings caused the love avalanche.
